We spent one night in Louisville so we could go to Churchill Downs and see the Kentucky Derby Museum. It was a pretty amazing place.
They have a statue of Barbaro out front. We took a walking tour of the track and heard all about the races they run there - especially the Kentucky Derby!
Here we are walking through the tunnel - the same tunnel you see Secretariat walk through on the movie.
It is by far the prettiest racetrack we saw!
Inside they have a museum. Secretariat is a feature here are well! They even had Ronnie Turcott's silks...
...and Secretariat's tack.
We found exhibits that would tell you all about different race horses.
They even had a race simulator to race against your friends. John needed help reaching the stirrups, but I rode by myself.
We even got to do virtual betting - no real money - but still pretty fun. We picked our horses, placed our bets and then watched the race!
And we cheered them on!
I got to try out my future career as a sports caster calling races. Daddy recorded it - I did a really good job.
Then we tried out the gates.
John is going to be the gate man.
We were able to try on Jockey silks and tryout some real gates. You can see that jockeying is serious business!
It was a very special stop with lots of history and fun things to do. I think everyone should got to Churchill Downs if they get the chance!
