A Zoo Adventure by John Lee

Yea for the Zoo! We planned a family zoo trip for Spring Break. We even got to make shirts to wear! We had to pick zoo animals - I picked monkeys! I insisted on three monkeys, so I made three handprints.

Mama helped add the head and ears.

I helped with the details, especially the eyes, noses and mouths.

We used stencils to put on letters to spell out the word ZOO. I picked purple for my colors.

I took my time and did a good job coloring.

Mama helped add the year and it came out really great!!

Zoo day finally came! I loved the meerkats. I am pretty sure I speak their language!

I would make a great Meerkat!

We have a pretty cool zoo close by - just over to El Paso - we found this neat jeep to take a picture with!

My favorite was the seal - we watched him swim in his pool.

We found all kind of interesting things to check out!

Daddy helped me get a good look!

We rested on an elephant and rode a tiger!

Then we stopped off to see the real elephant!

We got to see several kinds of monkeys and apes, as well.

We took some time at the treehouse playground and laughed a lot! So much family time!

I got to use the money I saved up in the gift shop - I got a giraffe to take home.

It was a great day with lots of fun. I can't wait to see where our next adventure takes us.

Off to the Zoo by Denny Lynn

We didn't get to take a vacation over Spring Break, so we planned a family zoo trip. Mama helped us make zoo shirts for the trip. I wanted a tiger and a zebra - so I made an orange handprint and a white handprint.

The I added stripes and other details.

Next we used stencils to write Zoo and added the year.

I decided to use just my initials instead of me name.

It came out great and I couldn't wait to wear it to the Zoo!

Finally, zoo day arrived! We got a map and started off - the giraffes came first.

It is important to know where you are going - we always check the map!

The lions weren't out for us to see, but we checked out their home and learned about them.

We found the seal.

And checked out the reptiles..the giant turtle and the alligator - no snakes please!

Took a little time out to ride a tiger and an elephant!

This is how I measure up to an orangutan!

We found the sun bear - he was relaxing and super cute.

I blew him a kiss before we left.

It was a grand day with family fun and cool animals! Not a bad way to kick off Spring Break!

Trappin' Leprechauns by Denny Lynn

The 5th graders get to make Leprechaun Traps and share them with the school. On St Patrick's Day we got to check them all out! I even ran into Holly there!

They were so cool! The 5th graders had come up with some great and creative ideas to trap the Leprechauns!

Caelee told me all about hers.

It was fun to check them all out. What a neat way to celebrate St Patrick's Day!

Happy St Patrick's Day by John Lee

We got to get greened up for St Patrick's Day - complete with fun tattoos! Mama even found me a yellow shirt with a big green clover.

Denny and I both cheesed it up for the camera to show off our green!

March 4-H Meeting by Denny Lynn

We had to have our 4-H Meeting early in the month because of Spring Break. I drew the President card again! John taught us about dog breeds and Payton taught us about making gack.

We even got our own Gack to take home!

Tanner brought his rabbit, Patches and taught us about taking care of and showing rabbits.

For our project, Ms. Teresa taught us to make corn husk dolls.

We used corn husks and strings to make our doll - head, body, arms and legs.

Once they were made, we got to dress them and add hair. 

Mine has overalls (or it will when I finish). It was fun to do a project with everyone!

Dog Lessons by John Lee

I signed up for a Teach and Tell at the March 4-H Meeting. It was an early meeting because of Spring Break. I had to work ahead to have everything ready. I wanted to teach about dogs.

I decided on teaching about different dog breeds. Mama got me a book and I learned on fact about each kind of dog.

We also found a famous cartoon of each dog to show. I could tell about the breed, then lift the flap to show the famous dog.

We also made a matching worksheet to give out at the meeting.

I talked about Beagles, Poodles, Cocker Spaniels, Bulldogs, Sheepdogs, Dalmatians, German Shepherds and Mixed Breeds. 

I really liked teaching about dogs. I liked it so much, I decided to teach my friends at school, too!

Mama came to help and I did my whole presentation for my class, complete with handouts.

They all really liked it. Some of them didn't do their papers right, and that was frustrating, but Mama convinced me that it was ok. I can't wait to teach about something else!

Fundraising by Denny Lynn

For our spring fundraiser we sold Butter Braids and snack mix. We were raising money for technology at school. I set my goal to sell at least 10 items to win a prize. We took orders and collected all the money. When the items came in, we had to sort them for delivery. I made a tag for each person and we banded their items together.

We added a thank you note to each one. I really appreciate everyone's support of my school.

I delivered as many as I could personally and Mama did the rest. I like fundraising - I have learned about taking order, collecting money and fulfilling the orders. And it is for a good cause!
