Exhibit Results by Denny Lynn

Part of the excitement of the fair is seeing all our exhibits on display. We found all our stuff and everything had a ribbon!

Since I am in Kindergarten now, I got to make a picture for our school display. My class made paint prints (like ink blots). Mine looked like a buffalo.

Here are pictures of some of the things we made. We had lots of stuff.

Baked Goods are inside a glass case, but we found them all!

When it was time to pick it all up, we took a box, but it was almost too little! Pick up was really fun because we saw lots of our friends there.

I am proud of all the ribbons I won! Especially my big ribbon - I got it for my skeleton shirt. I wore my shirt and took the ribbon for show and tell. We also got certificates for free pizza. It pays to work hard!

Fun at the Fair by John Lee

There is no funner place for a silly boy than at the fair! I was super excited to get to go with Mama and Grandma and Grandpa. Daddy hung out with us some, but he had to help with the horse show.

I would have stayed in the corn bin all day....

but we had to get out to decorate a pumpkin! I picked a really good one and Grandpa helped put on the stickers.

I took my turn on the tractor train - I waved at everyone at the fair.

Denny and I really like the train exhibit. I looked for yellow trucks and trains - and I found some!

We also got to see all the animals. I love animals. The bunnies were especially cool. One 4-H'er even let us pet hers.

I wish everyday was fair day, but Mama says no. Can't wait until next year.

Fun at the Fair by Denny Lynn

While Grandma and Grandpa were here we also got to go to the fair! There is lots to do there. We started out with lunch!

Then it was on to the 4-H Building to play in the corn bin and decorate pumpkins.

Mine came out great with a big smile!

We took a turn on the tractor train - always a favorite.

Then we checked out the model trains - they had a bunch of them going.

New this year was a shark exhibit - it was way cool - there were even live sharks!

On Sunday we went back to pick up our exhibits and Mama let me take some money to ride a couple of rides. John was sick and didn't get to go. Here is a picture of me two years ago on the candy train.

Here I am this year on the same train! I am growing up, but I still love the fair. I am already planning for next year!

Soccer with Family by Denny Lynn

I still love soccer! It is really fun to practice and to play. In early October, Grandma and Grandpa came to watch a game. John comes to all my games and cheers me on.

My team and I played really hard and we had a good game. We are the Minions in yellow.

It was pretty cold that morning - I even had to play part of the game in my jacket. Daddy let me ride on his shoulders on the way out because my feet were so tired from running!

It was a good day. Everyone wore their Minion shirts to support my team. I scored three goals that day.

I am so glad I have had the chance to make new friends and learn new things with soccer.

My Fair Food by Denny Lynn

Once all our crafts projects were done, it was time to make our baked goods for the fair. I made Jolly Rancher lollipops first. You lay out the jolly ranchers and just heat them in the oven.

I liked watching them melt together.

Then we wrapped up the best ones for the judges....

...and ate the leftovers! They are definitely blue ribbon in my book!

It takes a lot of supplies to make candy. I made spiced glazed pecans in the crockpot. 

The glaze was butter and powdered sugar. They had to cook a long time, but you had to stir them often.

While they were cooking I made some caramel. Once all the ingredients were in, you only had to cook it for six minutes.

But, you had to stir it every 2 minutes.

Then smooth it out in a pan to cool.

Finally, the pecans were glazed and I added the spices (ginger, cinnamon and clove). They smelled really good!

I shook them up to get them all coated, then made smaller tubs for the fair. It was fun to make new stuff! Can't wait to see if I win any ribbons!

My Fair Food by John Lee

Wednesday was the day to enter the Baked Goods contest at the fair. We started on those projects early, too. We like to make candy to enter. First, I made simple fudge - we added peanut butter chips for a different flavor. It is really easy to make, especially if Mama forgets to take the chips out of the van for a couple of days, then you can just squeeze 'em into the bowl, pre-melted! 

I also made Tiger Butter - I got to take leftovers to church and it was a big hit! White chocolate and peanut butter with chocolate on top!

Finally, I made pralines. My favorite part was packing the brown sugar! It was like playing in the sand.

I was so inspired by candy making that I had to put on my cooking clothes!
